SEVERE WEATHER PROBABILITIES FOR WEDNESDAY
AS A COLD FRONT MOVES INTO WESTERN ARKANSAS ON WEDNESDAY, SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL BEGIN TO MOVE INTO THE AREA. THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER FOR WEDNESDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT. THE MAIN THREAT WITH THESE STORMS WILL BE LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS, WITH ISOLATED TORNADOES POSSIBLE. THE COLD FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT.

It is amazing to me that even though the low Tues. morning was 65 degrees the temperature only went up to 81 degrees for a high despite almost full sun all day. The same thing yesterday. What would cause this-I would have expected at least a 20 degree increase with the high April sun. Thanks.
Typically you could expect a 20 degree swing. A couple of hindrances yesterday kept that closer to 15 degrees. The airport actually had mostly cloudy skies until after 10am, which cut the # of heating hours down by about 3. The temp was 69 at 10am. Also, I suspect that the presence of a gusty wind actually kept the temp down a couple of degrees. Optimal heating occurs with light wind, when the air near the surface doesn't "mix" with cooler air aloft. The wind kept the air mixed up very well yesterday, and I suspect, moderated the temperature slightly. Great question and perhaps one I should discuss more in the blog sometime.
