Annual Climate Summary for 2009

Temperatures near normal -- precipitation above normal

Memphis International Airport, Memphis, TN
The average temperature for 2009 at the official recording station for Memphis (Memphis International Airport) was 62.4 degrees, which was 0.2 degrees above normal. The maximum temperature for the year was 100 degrees on June 23rd and the minimum was 12 degrees on January 16th. Annual precipitation totaled 61.26", which was 6.61" above normal. (Precipitation in 2008 totaled 64.21".) Snow fell on January 28 (0.8"), February 28-March 1 (3.3"), and several other days, including December 25, with a Trace, totaling 4.1" for the year, which is 1/2" below the long-term climate average of 4.6". Bartlett, TN
The average temperature for 2009 at the WXLIVE! station in north Bartlett was 61.3 degrees, with a maximum of 98.5 degrees on June 23rd and a minimum of 9.7 degrees on January 16th. Annual precipitation totaled 56.00" at the automated WXLIVE! gauge, while a co-located manual gauge used for the CoCoRaHS program measured 63.69". (The automated rain gauge was calibrated in late October and readings for the last two months of the year between the two gauges were much more similar.) The peak wind gust was 46 mph recorded on June 12th. Barometric pressure averaged 30.04" and relative humidity averaged 71%. Snow fell on January 28 (0.8"), February 28-March 1 (8.9"), and December 25 (Trace), totaling 9.7" for the year and 5.6" more than the airport. Click here for the MWN recap.
